At the ceremony of the international jury for the Golden Flower of Europe held in Cardiff on September 25, 2009 in strong competition among 5700 European cities, Mali Lošinj has won a prestigious international award the Silver Flower of Europe.
The international jury for the Golden Flower of Europe 2009 - Entente Florale Europe, comprising 12 commission members (representatives of 12 member states of the European Association for Flowers and Landscape: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Hungary, Slovenia, Netherlands and the United Kingdom) visited Mali Lošinj in June and, in addition to the beauty of the landscape, assessed cleanliness and quality of created environment, preservation and care of historic heritage, traditional culture, cultural heritage, and education of young people in the Town of Mali Lošinj.
On that occasion, president of the jury Monika Hetch from Austria, said that Lošinj is a green island where lot of attention is given to the arrangement of the environment and nature and how they remained overwhelmed with the project Fragrances and tastes of the island of Lošinj, numerous environmental projects involving young people and obvious concern related to the objects of culture and architecture.
