Traditional hand picking is essential and irreplaceable in producing high quality olive oil. This does not apply only to olive harvest. Nevertheless, quality is particularly important for olive harvest, and a satisfactory machine process for olive harvest has not been found to this day. Therefore, with departure of summer tourists, in autumn Lošinj is visited by olive pickers.

Table olives are harvested before olives intended for oil production, because they mature about four weeks earlier. They are harvested by hand and farmers say it is a "warming up" for harvesting olives for oil production. This is followed by olive harvest for oil production!
